Speeding Offence in UK?

My friend activated the gasto Speed camera on a road with 40mph limit while on 48mph. She has not received any ticket by post and it is over 14days and is worried because she was driving on a international drving license, what will happen next?

how long have your friend been in the UK for?

if your friend have been settled less than 12 months the procedure is this:

your friend get a NIP (notice intended prosecution) in the post. you send back with a cover letter stating that you were the driver but that you do not have a UK licence. sned in a copy of your licence.

they will write back stating that since she don't have a UK licence, the matter will be referred to court.

in a few months she will get a letter from the court asking if she wishes to plead guilty or NOT guilty. if she pleads guilty, she can to this by post, and never have to see the inside of the courtroom.

please note, if your friend pleads guilty & pay the fine, the points will be added to a ghost licence. if you/when you apply for a UK licence, these points will already be there.

would normally expect to hear something after 14 days....but the police have up to 6 months to take action.
her speedo may be showing 48mph, but her actual speed may have been a little less, in which case they may well not push the case.

MeMe N Only Me
Normally she should have received the ticket within 14 days.
Also it depends whose name the car was registered in coz ticket will be posted to registered keeper. The registered owner of car is responsible for any offensis related to car unless they provide the details of driver who was driving at the time.

Well at least they can't give her points.

The letter goes to the person who the car is registered to.
Then they have to fill in a form if they weren't driving , identifying the actual driver. Then if you can send your licence and a cheque for £60 in the time given (4 weeks from date of your letter) you usually don't have to go to court.

Was she driving her car or yours? If it was your car, the ticket is posted to the registered keeper; the police have 14 days to post either the ticket or Notice of Intended Prosecution, it may still be in the post, having been posted within the 14 days.

It's possible that the camera didn't take a picture, sometimes they just flash without doing that.

If your friend was using her foreign-registered car, they probably won't bother.

By the way, there's no such thing as an International Driving Licence, it's purely a translation of the original.

Typically two weeks is not that long for an intention to prosecute notice. As far as driving on an international drivers license the police will normally detain the driver if the address cannot be confirmed. I would suspect that she will probably not hear any thing more on this matter.

I have been in the same situation and currently waiting the 14 days,
Although I was doing 33 in a 30
I have looked at this extensively online.
The police have to notify you within 14 days of the offence,
On top of that you have to allow 3 working days for postage,
If it is longer than this time span and they still intend to prosecute, you can get out of it and they have to forget about it.
If she does get a letter make sure that she keeps the envelope as proof for the date stamp.
Apparently some cameras don't have film in or just don't work.

boy boy
tell her not to worry ..they have not forgotten her ..they will be around soon ...ithink the max time is six weeks

You haven't said what the country of her licence is.
