Speeding ticket question!?

i got a speeding ticket the other day, and i plead not guilty. when the cop filled out the method of determingin speed, he checked "other" instead of radar or speedometer, or vascar. what does that mean, and what are my best methods of fighting this in court? i really dont think i was speeding!

Other, means he visually observed you speeding; gauged by the flow of traffic generally. You can try to fight it, but it really depends on the judge. Some judges will take it under consideration, if you plead guilty, and pay fine, and no other tickests for six months, they won't give you any points; depends on the judge, and the state.

A lawyer might help but its up to you if you want to pay a fine and lawyer fees. I feel you get a lawyer if you were "well over the limit" as cops say, if your record is pretty clean and you plead not guilty, then the risk is either nothing IF the cop does not show up, pay a fine if you are found guilty or traffic school, with the court system you never know, once I went with a lawyer plead not guilty and still encoured court costs, so i lost twice, and I wasn't speeding. but here is some excuses if you get asked why you were speeding. I had to get home quick to take a sh@#, I wasn't speeding it was the other guy, or say I dont speed its wrong and I would never risk my life or anyone elses-that cop is wrong. bottom line I always always cop or not plead NOT guilty, then its cop versus you....

Other can mean driving at an unsafe speed. They don't need to put down a velocity. It will be tough to fight in traffic court. Try to look for something on the ticket about your car, for example, the correct license number or color.

Other could be by pacing you or aircraft. Usually this means that one person wrote the ticket and another actually was the one that "clocked" you speeding. Most of the time you can beat these types of tickets.

You can call the DA from a pay phone so that they cannot id your call and ask him what the penalties are if you loose. If you use your license for work, i.e. truck driver, taxi... it would be in your best interest to pay the extra for a lawyer to show up with you.

Most lawyers will offer a free 30 min talk to consult with you before they accept the case and start charging. Look in the phone book and ask if they offer this when you call for an appointment.

You probably were "clocked" by plane or another officer. Depending on the amount of the ticket (I noticed you didn't mention how much or even an estimate), if you take some time off from work and show up in court nicely dressed and explain your side, the judge usually cuts your fine to the admin costs, plus a little if he doesn't believe you. You may get two points on your driving record and you may not. It also drops off after a period of time.

It means that he gave you a break. Even though you may still have to pay something,it won't be for speeding. And it's possible you wont get points taken off your license.

They may have timed you by plane. Get a lawyer and have him get it modified to a non-moving violation so it does not go on your Motor vehicle report.

Then just say that. Chances are you will be found not guiilty. The cops dont usually even show up. You'll get off easy. Dont worry about it.

life isn't fair. pay the ticket. if you get all into it, even if it is dismissed, you will have spent a ton of time on a real negative issue - like you are already. quit while you are behind.
