Talking while Driving as dangerous as Smoking while driving?

I am looking for opinions on this. Is it more dangerous to smoke while driving or talk on a cell phone? Why don't states outlaw and enforce smoking while driving? Shouldn't handsfree smoking be at least required. Think of it..to smoke...one must dig around for the cigs, find the lighter, light the cigarette, then smoke it. The smoke impares vision,..then the smoker if they are thoughtful and considerate must toss the butt out the window into the path of other drivers. What do you think?

Driving requires your full attention. Smoking, talking on a cell phone, smoking, eating, etc, means you are not paying full attention to what you're doing and it creates a dangerous situation.

So you hate smokers and one of them just gave you the finger when you almost rammed his car because you were talking on the phone. LOL. Does that make smoking and driving more dangerous than yakking and driving?

No.

Smoking does take your attention away from your driving but only for a fraction of the time that a phone conversation does. If you're seriously worried about safety on our roads, I'd work harder at banning phones from drivers' hands.

No. talking on the cell is much dangerous than smoking. I don't smoke either.

First of all I am against smoking & what about passive smoking. Its after you lit the cigarate evertime you check the cigarate not to drop the ash on your troushre & one more distraction from driving : To hit the ashtray without spoiling the car floor. More killing on the roads because of cigarate!!

talking while driving is less dangerous then smoking while driving, when talking you can keep your eyes on the road without thinking about ashes falling on your lap or seat, think what would happen then....
then all your attention goes down there instead of oncoming traffic.

Smoking is more dangerous for sure. Because even if you don't have wreck while doing to it. You will eventually get cancer and or emphysema and die.

As for while you're driving. As long as you are paying attention to your driving neither should be a problem. If you are not paying attention you're going be screwed even if you not doing anything else.

If you first focus an your driving, there is no reason you should not be able to multitask in any number of ways safely. The cell phone may be a bit more distracting, because of the conversation. On the plus side, if you suddenly need both hands to drive. You can (and should) drop the cell phone on the floor. Doing that with a cigarette, would be a danger in it's self.

Anyways, it's a washout. Neither should be a problem. Just pay attention to your driving and everything should be fine.
