Nonsense.
What would the offence be?
You may be advised not to drive if it is a friendly police officer or they may watch you leave then breathalyse you. |

I don't know how the law stands now , but a few years ago if you had your car keys on you ,you could be charged with being drunk in charge of a vehicle , |

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. You can have the keys to a dozen cars, but that doesn't even mean you drove to the bar, much less are driving home. You may be leaving your car and taking a cab, you may even have a hotel room booked so you don't have to drive.
However, if you are sleeping in the back seat of your car, drunk, and it is on the street, it doesn't matter if it is parked, you are in control of the car and can be arrested. |

Load of crap!
To qualify for drink driving you must be in control of the vehicle. You cannot be in control whilst not even in it!
Beware, however. If you enter your car intending to "sleep it off" you could be held accountable as you have the keys and are deemed "in control". |

That isn't true, but if you were drunk and took your keys outside, approached your car and attempted to get in the driver's door (even though you might be innocently collecting something from your car before walking home) you can definitely be charged then. You don't even have to start up the engine. |

Absolute rubbish, you can legally have an alcoholic drink and stay under the drink drive limit or you could just be having a coke or water.
They can only question you once you are in the motor vehicle and they have cause to suspect you are over the limit. A breathalyser test will confirm one way or the other. |

The offence requires that you actually sit in the vehicle. |

Ask the person to show you how that situation is addressed in the traffic law or give you a case # where someone was prosecuted for that.
If he or she can not you win. |
