If the black box flight recorder is never damaged during a plane crash, why isn't the whole airplane made out of the stuff?
|

It would make the airplane too heavy to fly. |

Would it be because the plane would be too heavy to get off the ground? |

The "black boxes" (which are actually yellow to make them easier to find) do not receive the brunt of the impact of a crash. They are located in the plane and the plane absorbs much of the impact.
It is the same thing as if you were to take a glass bowl and drop it to the ground. It would shatter! If you were to put the same bowl in a box, surrounded by packing materials (Styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap or the like) and drop the package from the same height, there would be less likelihood of the bowl being damaged. The packing absorbs most of the impact! |

Ah, Jedi Master, that is also a mystery of the universe. Did you know that the 'black box' is not black? It's yellow, I think, so it can be seen amid the charred debris. |

Ahhh But the black box can be damaged it has happened before where the information could not be retrieved because of damage to it. The reason the black box normally survives the crash is not in whole because of what it is made of it is because it it located in the tail of the plane. Usually the last part to hit the ground with the least amount of impact!! |

the material it is made of is extremely expensive. to build a plane from it would not be economically feasible. |

Cute Bunny, you think you are very smart. Black box are covered with Titanium casing, if you make a plane with titanium I think it will be never be able even to crawl. A black box is a small box which records some important data of the plane, which is actually meant to avoid the catastrophe in any other plane. |
