In case you get stuck or break down, bring blankets, food, water, fully charged phone, shovel.

Make sure you have the number of the AA/RAC

Keep it slow. Try and stay in a high gear. Don't corner too quick. Stick to gritted roads. Take lots of clothes in case you break down. Don't go out unless you have to.

GAVIN E
Don't drive on it unless you seriously have to.

First things first.. Get Snow Tires! They are specially designed to grip the road better with ice and snow.
2) If you have a truck or a car with little weight in the back, buy sand bags to put in the back to give you more weight and traction. You can get these at a store like CAL Ranch.
3) Go Slow! If its really snowy or icy, its better to go slow.
4) If your car starts to fish tail (the back wheels slipping) take your foot off the gas and turn the wheel so the car is straight.
5) Don't ever slam on your breaks, this will cause them to lock and not grip the road. Its better to break a little but earlier and break slowly, kinda pumping the breaks.
6)If your car for some reason starts to spin, take your foot off the gas and turn into the spin.
7) Always keep a 72 hour kit in your car with blankets and hand warmers just in case you end up going off the road and no one can get to you.
8) Keep your cell phone handy and insurance card, just in case something happens.

Basically go slower and never slam on the breaks.

keep your car where it is its not you its the other mad drivers who slide in to you

Gemima
Don't! It's too dangerous. Only travel if you really have to.
If you do have to, then reduce your speed significantly and be very cautious. Leave for your destination a lot earlier then you usually would.
Be careful!

If you really HAVE to drive, high gear, low revs, slow speed, pay extra attention to all road users, don`t brake harshly, slow and steady.Keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front, if he does something silly you are not straight into his boot. Don`t pull out in front of other cars, remember they are in the same situation as you. Good luck, stay safe.

i will try to keep this short and sweet. try to keep to flat roads, if you do have to go up hill try to keep your car moving because if you stop half way up you may have trouble to get going again (wheel spin),, if your going down hill go slowly and brake early and gently, do not brake half way around a corner as this can lock your front wheels up, then the only way you will go is straight on, if this does happen and you start to slide out with your wheels turned, and trust me this is the opposite to what you will want to do. Take your foot off the brake, the car will start to turn, try to keep thing really smooth and watch out for the local idiot

Take corners very slow & wide, turning the wheel too sharply will cause you to slide.

Basically.........

- Try to pull off in a higher gear, 2nd for example.
- Don't pull off abruptly or fast
- Don't make and harsh moves (ie, turning quickly or braking harsh)

Most importantly, STAY CALM

If you hit black ice and start to slip and slide do NOT panic and apply the brake, just try to reposition the car by steering the wheel. So many accidents are caused by people panicking and applying the brake
