First of all, know your vehicle. Learn how it works, what are the tricky points of the car (eg. FWD, RWD or 4WD). Know the overall mechanical condition of the car, take special care for the brakes and make sure the steering is always OK. Leave the surprises for birthday parties ;D
Learn how to monitor the surroundings of your car when driving, to observe traffic aorund you better. Learn to use the mirrors, learn to adjust them so that you see the important things (eg. a general error is that the outboard mirrors are set to see directly behind and half of the mirror show your rear end, not the cars behind you in the other lane).
Learn to extract the important visual information from what you see (traffic signs and lights, line of the road and the other participants of the traffic, taking extra attention of pedestrians and cyclists, who are unprotected). Always scan the road in front of you for a longer distance, especially when turning, but aviod tunnel vision, using the mirrors and turning you head if necessary. Always look in the direction you are heading, planning the track of your vehicle.
Don't go into traffic until you have full control of your vehicle. It's also recommended that you practise in quiet, off-traffic place if controlling your car takes your concentration up so badly that it influences your ability to observe traffic. If you have to concentrate on just driving the car, you can't concentrate on the traffic.
Don't be afraid to be a beginner. You don't need special skills for driving and you can be sure that others don't have it, neither. According to a survey which I read earlier, nine drivers out of ten thinks that he/she has an exceptional talent for driving. Do you think they are right? ;D

Always stay calm. Don't let the other guy get to you. Never look the other driver directly in the eyes! Ignore cursing. Know the rules of the road YOURSELF!!!! Never assume that the other driver is correct. (Some think that they are, and they aren't). If you are unsure of something, ask, and learn. NEVER drink and drive, (or any other drug). And my last one, this one is so important!!!!!! We just had an incident with a 20 year old college student that was traveling on a fast paced highway. She had just got pulled over and received a speeding ticket. Instead of driving off, she excited her vehicle, and upon returning got hit by a big truck, and still another truck, and then a PT cruser. Please learn from this horrible event. NEVER exit your vehicle on a busy highway!!!! If you have to go to the bathroom, wait until you find some place that you can safely go to!!!!!!! |

Pay attention while you drive....learn to merge....use your turn signals...and look before you leap (meaning turn your freaking head and look once in a while!!!) |

I just got my g2 a few months ago so I know what its like. First I know you've herd this a lot but its true- you'll find find out after awhile- don't give to peer pressure I've gotten into trouble because of that and I though I could handle peer pressure. secondly only give rides to people you trust otherwise you'll start focusing more on them than the road to see what their doing. One more thing if your a guy your going to love going fast well not necessarily going fast but watching the rpm go to like 6, 7 or 8 and you got to watch that you never know where the cops are and they love teenagers going fast because its easy money. |
