It is late night, quiet, and no cars... no people, an here is this red traffic light that you know stay forever... You can see well left and right. front and back, it is safe regarding accidents.. like a stop sign... the vision is very clear... you are not in emergency nor in hurry, but it is ridiculous every night the same thing, this computerised traffic light that makes no sense.. and if you are in hurry but no emergency,,,,what do you do????.. DON"T ANSWER WHAT IS TEH RIGHT THING TO DO>> ANSWER WHAT YOU WILL REALLY DO

If the light is really looooong, I would make a right turn on red (legal in most places), make a left at the first opportunity for a U turn and go back to the traffic light, make another right turn. This will put you past the light and on your way. |

Guilty of running a red light that didn't change fast enough for me, not a good thing to do though, didn't get caught, but sure wouldn't recommend doing it! There is my honest answer for you! |

I've done this b4, not that I wanted to. It was early morn. (2-3am) and needed to get home. I waited for what seemed like an eternity and it never turned green so I said F-it and went. I only did it b/c the car next to me already went first on the red light. |

Wait. You may not be able to see or hear everything that is approaching the crossing. If you should have an accident while you are crossing against the lights then you would be the cause of that accident wouldn't you? |

i stop and then if no traffic i back up a car length or two. This will usually turn the light green if a metal detector is used along with traffic signal. backing up will make the equipment think several cars are waiting at the light instead of only one.

Just because you said it was late at night, I'd say I'd wait it out because I might not see someone.
But if I was 100% sure that it was safe, then sure, I'd run it. |

I would give it 3 minutes and if it was still red and it was quiet then I would assume that the lights had broken down and I would just go. |
