We found a significant reduction (about 50%) in the risk of serious injury in silver cars compared with white cars (a quote from this site http://radio.weblogs.com/0105910/2003/12/19.html)

Silver cars are much less likely to be involved in a serious crash than cars of other colours, suggests a new study of over 1000 cars.

People driving in silver cars were 50 per cent less likely to suffer serious injury in a crash compared with drivers of white cars, the research in New Zealand found (a quote from this site http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn4504)

Hope this helps you convince you mother.

Red and burnt orange are said to promote agression....

but also, silver cars are quite common and I've never noticed a large amount of silver cars in crashes, were are your mother's statistics from?

As for cant be seen on the road, black would be harder to be seen on the road. Every car has reflectors w/ the lights.

Hope that helps!
good luck.

Depends on the light. Many colours don't show up very well especially when the light is dim. Tell your Mom you will always drive with the lights on or get one of those cars fitted with lights that come on when things get dimmer. You could probably convert any car to do that.

I agree with both of you in a sense. I agree with your mom about not being able to see at night but you can't see any color at night. Its dark. If your lights are on it wouldn't matter and the light will reflect off the silver. In my opinion it would safer than a black one.

Of course I agree with your mom. Your mother is always right.

Red cars are the safest.

But just in case you want to support your side of the argument, see this link which says silver cars are the safest. http://www.webmd.com/content/article/78/95878.htm

silver is a very safe color and red is the most dangerous, red cars are in more wrecks than any other color believe it or not. I don't understand your mothers reasoning, maybe she just doesn't want you to have a car right now.

Its been proven that silver cars are more dangerous. They blend in with the color of the road and in a splint second that someone can't see you could mean the difference between an accident and not an accident.

The older people get the worse their eyesigiht. On the young side , younger people are more distracted than older people.

Either way you look at it Silver isn't a safe color also black isn't the safest color either.

When it comes right down to it, the driver needs to drive defensivly.

Firecracker .
I don't know what these people are thinking when they say a silver car blends in with the road........ there is no silver or grey in the roadway to blend with! I painted my old Charger silver-grey a long time ago. Never had a problem, but that may be because of how I drive. There was NO WAY to see that car in the fog, all that could be seen were the lights.

The gr8t alien
they are actually more visible than a white car
