What are you supposed to do when you come to a red light that allows you to turn, but you have your own lane once you turn? Do you stop, yield, or keep going into your lane just watching for pedestrians?

The red light means you have to stop, first, and then procede when it is safe to do so.
Red light means stop. It's that simple. |

First & foremost it's a red light. So you must come to a complete stop & once it is safe to proceed, you can then turn right. Coasting through the light will be the same a running a red light. |

Let's break this down:
- Red light means STOP!
- Right turns on red are allowed and, not allowed, in certain states. Check your state's motor vehicle laws.
- Check for pedestrians and proceed with caution.
- Look for "No turn on red" signs and proceed with caution.

In CA: stop. look, yield to everybody, including u-turners, left-turners, pedestrians, etc. Proceed against the redda when safe. |

In Maryland, it's right on red. You have to yield to oncoming traffic, and once it's clear you are allowed to go. |

treat it like a stop sign. stop and then proceed when safe (no other cars are coming or no pedestrians) |
