I was told that you are to never cross your hands or arms doing any of these test. |

I assume you mean a 'turn in the road', (formally known as 3 point turn). When doing tight manouevres you are still advised to keep the 'pull-push' method of streering to keep control of the vehicle and keep smooth movement too. However if you do cross your hands a little on the manouevre but still keep good control you will be ok. |

it would take a real butt wipe to mark you off for that, however you are not supposed to do that because according to them you restrict your own movement when you cross your arms. |

The simple answer to this is easy. What have you been taught by your instructor. He or she is ultimately responsible for getting you through your test. Ask in the morning before the test as presumably you will be having you pre test lesson
Generally speaking if you do EXACTLY as you have been taught you will pass if you do not then you are likely to fail. Don't try to do anything flash or fancy as they have seen it all before and are not impressed by it in fact the will be most unimpressed. These action will more than likely get you a mark down. Too many minor points as a fail one major fault is a fail. So once again do what you have been taught and no more and no less
Really good luck and keep calm and you are more than likely to do OK
If you do pass then keep VERY safe over the christmas and new year period and then develope good driving practice in the future. You have probably spent a reasonable amount so far and want to keep that licence and keep safe and alive as well |

NOPE you should slide the wheel between your hands its a big no no to cross your hands. Whoever said that must want you to fail dont listen its not nice to fail.
Plus you will be so mad at yourself if you do fail for that.

Best Not to. |

As others have said, you need to feed the wheel through your hands - don't cross them.
Good luck with your test! |

Sorry Michele crossing hands would not be an acceptable movement during a driving test. For a breif moment you would not be in control.. Good luck take care. |

To get away with it you must have either done very well in other parts of your test or have a very leninet examiner.
Crossing your hands is bad practice. It's just a "boy racer" habit taken from a desire to copy rally drivers who sometimes have to corner at high speed. Unless you're specially trained in high speed driving it's rather a "posing" thing to do.
For example, if the car slides for any reason you would find it impossible to recover control fast enough to avoid hitting something.
This is because you would have to let go with one or both of your hands to be able to "centre the wheel". The nature of the human body is to tighten grip at first hint of danger (perhaps a lingering evolutionary trait from gripping your wooden club when a saber-tooth attacks).
Therefore the "shuffle" is actually safer because you have both hands on the wheel at all times.
There you are then: ignore the show-offs and drive safely. If you get into bad "flashy" habits at the time of your test then there's a very good chance that you'll smash into something quite soon afterwards. Go to your local Casualty department on a Saturday night and see the results of this. |

The answer is NO, to perform the three point turn,
(to turn the car around so that it is facing the other way)
you push with the left hand and pull with the right hand or feed the steering through your hands, if your instructor has taught you to cross your hands while turning then he is not much good as a instructor and just might want you to fail so that you are then forced to have extra lessons when there is no need.
good luck on your test. |

NO - you need to shuffle the wheel through your hands at all times.
When I was learning to drive the Instructor told me that crossing your hands during your test is one of the things your examiner will FAIL you on. |

Each state has its own rules. Some examiners think hand crossing or overlap is OK. If you have learned to drive allowing hands and arms to overlap, it will be hard to change your learnings overnight. But you can try. How fast are you going while in the turnabout? Try going a bit faster in the turnabout and see if hand schuffling makes the turn smoother. Another rule to think about is to keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times. Overlap steering does not do that. |
