Have a look at the on-line version of the highway code relating to roundabouts - it explains it all! |

To go straight ahead at the roundabout you should stay in the left hand lane without signalling until you have passed the first exit, then signal off. |

Keep to the left
If you want the the third or Fourth exit then you want the right. |

you're right, stay in the left hand lane. |

i would go into the left lane for straight ahead |

I would go in the left lane too, but beware of all the other idiots who don't and who try to overtake you on the roundabout. |

you should stay in the left lane to proceed straight ahead - unless the road markings indicate otherwise (sometimes the left lane can only go left, and the middle/right lane is for both straight ahead and right turns) |

Always left hand for straight ahead, you're completely right. Some people don't stick to this but they break the rules and are dangerous drivers. |

I would stay in the left hand lane. |

It is the left hand lane, see the highway code:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070338
I find it more dangerous and I almost been hit once, that people who want to go for the straight (second) exit, tend to go in the left lane and instead of staying on the outside but drive straight cutting up a driver who is on the inside turning right (3rd exit). |

here is a tip if the left hand lane is full of cars go into the right hand lane and do a full circle round until you get to the exit signal and leave the roundabout. really pis**s off the others. nothing in the highway code to say you cannot do this. Have Fun. |

Yeah, I always stay in the left hand lane when going straight ahead. |

The latest highway code shows left-hand lane only, but previous versions have shown the right-hand could be used as well unless marked otherwise. |

Hi, I am an ex driving instructor so can help. Everything you have said in your question is absolutely correct. The best thing you can do in order to take a roundabout correctly is plenty of forward planning. Look into the traffic early and look to the right early on your approach which will help you immensley and also get a good look at the road markings on the lead up. If you approach a roundabout with no markings then there is no strict lane discipline but the same rules apply. You must choose the most appropriate lane for you. |

I use the outside. |

It depends how many exits are on the roundabout. For exit 1 and 2 you use the left lane, for all others you use right lane. People always get it wrong though so be careful
(straight ahead can sometimes be third exit, in which case you use right lane) |

you can guarantee to be in the correct lane if you stay right, then go all the way around the roundabout and come off at your desired exit..... |
