Uk drink driving limit should it be zero?

i think it should be zero i:e the limit at the moment is 35 but how do you know when you are over or under surely if this was set to zero then if you have any alcoholic drink then you don't drive simple as that im a driver but i also like to have a drink not all the time but when i do have a drink i will have a lot now i know i couldn't drive like this but what about in the morning wouldn't i still be over the limit ???? i don't know but if i knew there was a zero drink drive limit then i would not drive if that makes sense anyone else agree with me or am i the only one
by the way im 42 and yes i know im not a teenager anymore
(i wish lol ) but not an old fuddy duddy Additional Details Meilien so what your saying i can get myself totally fart faced tonight drinking and get up six hours later and i would be safe and ok i dont think so

There should DEFINITELY be a zero tolerance. As a professional driver who travels around 80,000 miles a year, I have seen way too many accidents involving drink and the use of mobile phones. Also, as a victim of a drink drive accident, all people who drink drive and use mobile phones whilst driving should have their licences taken off them, simple as that. Even in the morning after a drinking session, you have alcohol in your system and this is completely unacceptable. I have no sympathy for anyone caught and deemed to be over the limit. Prison is too good for them and teaches them nothing, as they are like bloody holiday camps. Suppose this leads onto another subject of the British justice system but lets leave that for another Yahoo! Answer. Sorry if I've ranted on for a little with this question but it gets my blood boiling. Commenting on Meilien, you must be the kind of person who "binge" drinks then drives in the morning, you are too selfish. Have some responsibility and consideration for others road users. To anyone else who has taken the time to read all the "rant", thank you for reading all this and drink sensibly and drive even more safely. Oh and by the way, I'm 32 and a responsible driver |

Hmm. The difficulty is, as you say, the morning after. How many times have you, or have you known others get absolutely hammered one night - had a few hours sleep and a McDonalds and then feel perfectly fit to jump in a car and drive home!!!
The problem with zero tolerance is to know how to deal with this. People will always drink, stay over and drive home. I think the answer will have to be a free testing source in pubs or maybe in cars to see where you are as far as limits go.
I don't know anyone who would consciously drink and drive, but I do know some who think "oh I only had two small glasses over the course of an evening with a meal - I'll be fine" But they don't know for sure do they.... |

After watching last night's 'police, camera, action' I totally agree with you.
Seeing some of the aftermath of some drunk drivers actions, I think There should be zero tolerance. |

I'm 17 and have had my license for a few months. I wouldn't dare drink and drive, and yes I agree, the limit should be zero! |

A driver is 4 times more likely to be in an accident if they are using a phone whilst driving. I feel that the level of alcohol should be zero and that all you should do in a car is drive. Manufacturers could come up with better solutions to make safer cars. |

Yes I can live with that. I only have 1 pint of lager shandy if I am driving. If lemonade is put with bitter it starts the hops off again. The lager has had the hops killed off by some stuff they put in it. (been sitting here and still can't get the name) |

Well, most countries have a drinking limit equivalent to one 12 oz. beer, one 8 oz. glass of wine, or one 1 oz. of hard liquor an hour. This will usually mean your blood alcohol level is at .05 or less for the average size adult. So I general rule is that if you only have one drink an hour. That is you start a drink finish it and then wait an hour to have another then you should be under the limit. However, if you have a bad liver or some other health problems you may not process the alcohol as well. Yes if you drink alot you could still be over the limit when you wake up but if you are, you definitely shouldn't have been driving the night before! Bottom line if your worried about if you had too much to drink just don't drive! |

uk is full of drink drivers, mainly over 50s we all no somebody who does it,dont agree with it, but what do you do, |

Simple answer is don't drink alcohol and drive.
Realistically I don't think a zero limit is feasible as we all have a small amount of alcohol in our bodies without actually drinking it.Reducing the limit by 50% would probably be more workable. |

It would be pretty hard to police, there are all sorts of things that can raise your level above 0 accidentally. Mouthwash, even a brandy mince pie. It would not be enforceable.
It would also mean that people could drink in the evening and still be over the limit in the morning if they have a slow metabolism. |
