Unplugging an ignition interlock device?

Not trying to fool a breathalyzer here or anything like that, just curious about one certain aspect of how an ignition interlock device works. The way these things work: One must blow into the device to start the car. Once one's 'breath' is approved, the ignition can be turned on. A few minutes later, the device asks the driver to perform the test again. After that, the device asks the driver to perform a "rolling test" again every 30 minutes or so. My question: what happens if one simply unplugs the device from the cord that is hooking it to the engine? I unplugged the device once while the engine was still running (I was parked at home) and the engine continued to run normally. I'm wondering how long the engine will continue to run as normal while the device is unplugged?

a shame that the other 2 people who replied are such judgmental stiffs.
In answer to your posting though, I've known people who had them and i think it happened once to one of them by accident when it was running , im not sure what happened but if its designed to doing those rolling things - i would think it would detect if unplugged while running and when plugged back in might record it . |
