Untraced driver failed to stop after road traffic accident?

My husband was involved in a road traffic accident last when a HGV hit him but failed to stop. A witness managed to get the registration number but only the first part. Could this driver still be traced?

Possible, but very difficult without anything else to go on. I hope he reported it to the police, it's an offence not to stop. Though it's possible the driver didn't know he'd done it. For the benefit of others, an HGV is a truck, not a car . . . |

Very difficult. Police can run traces, however this is very costly and only done in a very serious crime. With the new allocation of registrations, the first two letters are the location of registration area and the next two numbers are year of registration. The final 3 letters are the ones that matter.
ie: LN 56 = London reg between Aug & Dec 2006
LN 56 ABC is the full reg.
So if the witness got LN 56 this isn't enough to trace the registered keeper. |

Report it to the police, They may be able to get CCTV from the area, but with only the first part of the registration it is near impossible to trace, and it all depends if the police have more important things to do at the time you call |

If thy find the vehicle then probably but other than that it will be very difficult for them to trace him. I hope he gets better. |

unfortunately not, they need the whole license plate number, they cannot search like "type of car" and "some reg. no."

There might be cameras in the area, but most likely you will have to pay your deductable and get the car fixed. Watch for that car in that area you never know if you will see it you may luck out. |

Do you know the car model and th colour? This will help. Also, find out if there are cameras where the accident happened. |
