Ok, my understanding, while it is used in aircraft etc. Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA, perspex an example of) I believe, though am not entirely sure that PMMA is illegal for use in windscreens, due to the fact if a head for example (pedestrian, passenger etc.) came into contact it is more dangerous in that it doesn't actually break? Where with glass it would shatter lessening the impact?
As PMMA is less than half the density of glass with good structural, UV Water resistance etc. I am considering using it for a rear windscreen as part of a design for a retractable roof that I am doing for a university assignment, and am mainly concerned as to the legality of its use, note as a rear windscreen, but at the moment can't get an exact answer.
