Used Tires: 2 snow tires + 2 all seasons or 4 all seasons?

Used Tires: 2 snow tires + 2 all seasons or 4 all seasons?

My car, a 92 Sentra, is on it's last legs so I don't want to put any more money into it than I have to. My tires now don't pass the "head of George Washington on a quarter" test, so to get me through the next few weeks till I find another car, i'm pretty sure I need tires. I have to do a lot of driving for work over the next few weeks, some of it in snow and ice. My question is, since my junkyard has either 4 all seasons or 2 snows and 2 all seasons, which should I choose?

All season tires are only really good for three of the four seasons (spring, summer and fall) And winter tires are only really good for winter, I'd say 2 winter and 2 seasons if you're going to have to drive on ice, it makes a huge difference.

All-Season tires are not worth it. It's just another of the "misconceptions" in the Auto Industry. They do not perform as well as either Summer or Winter tires. The whole Warranty system is a marketing scam. Never buy Tires that "offer" a high mileage "warranty". All the miles you have put on the tire are deducted from the "guarnteed" mileage claim. Think about this, the harder a rubber compound is, the longer it lasts, BUT the LESS it grips the road. Buy "performance" tires that are softer. I use performance tires on icey roads, and wet roads, and they perform well. If there is a lot of snow, then those expensive Winter Tires are needed. The new technology is amazing. Chains are exellent in snow, but DO NOT buy cheap Cable Link Chains. They break very easily. Buy "Square-Link Chains", or for a truck or SUV, get "V-Bar Link Chains". Lastly, do not drive a vehicle with more than one different tire. The tread should be identical on all 4 tires for proper traction. That means safety! Do not buy cheap to save money, it's your life. Know this: the Rubber compound breaks down after 5 years, no matter if the tire hasn't even been used. There is a number on the sidewall that tells you the date manufactured. Example-"4207"-means it was made in the 42nd month of 2007.
Finally: learn how to drive for the conditions.

G'day from Bavaria, Germany. I live in a very snowy region of Europe and would recommend you take the two snows for the front, and the ones that pass the Washington test for the rear. (We have something similar here with Euro coins.) I'm not really fond of all seasons; actually, they don't really work well, but that's what they do quite reliably, in all seasons.

Neither..........keep looking for a set of (4) snow tires and if you cant find them at the salvage yard then check at local used tire shops.
