Last night on black ice I was slipping around too much for my taste. I have a beater, 92 Nissan Sentra in poor shape, and I've been searching for a good used car for a month now, so since all I've got till after the holidays is the Sentra, and I don't want to put much money into it since I'll probably be junking it in another month or so, what kind of tires should I go with? The tires on it are marginal now, and all but one groove failed the "top of Washington's head on a quarter" test, so I guess I'm due. My local wrecking yard has two good snows, and some good all seasons, or another junkyard will (they say) have four good all seasons on Friday. I'm going to have to be doing a lot of driving over the next couple of weeks for work, so I really need your advice. Thanks.

It is NOT recommended to use only two snow tires and two all season tires on any vehicle. Especially a front wheel drive vehicle. If you do use two snows and to all seasons...put the snow tires on the rear. In fact, the tires with the best tread should always be on the rear of any vehicle. Fish-tailing the rear of any vehicle is the hardest skid to regain control over. Much easier to do on a rear wheel drive vehicle. |

4 snow/winter tires....used if you have too but don't mix snow/winter tires with all seasons tires. |
