Find answers to your legal question.

Victim gets hit and runs from the scence do you still have to report it?

the victim runs across a very busy street without looking both ways and your next to a school bus and the start of the cars hood is about on the middle of the bus and your going about less than 20 and you cant see anything to the left side because the bus is blocking your view by the time you see the girl infront you push the brakes and end up hitting her and she falls down and gets up and says sorry and runs away and you try to aid her but she vanished from the scene so quickly that you didnt get to see where she went because your in shock of what just happened, and you wait around to find her for about 20 min, do u still report this?

you should report any accident like this because it can come back to bite you. better to cover your @ss than just drive off. The child may have injuries they are not aware of yet or somebody saw you and wrote down your tag and watched you leave.

its common sense and decency.

vdv_desantnik
yes just in case the victim goes to a police station and says 'a car hit me then drove off' youre covered

I agree, report it. The police aren't going to do anything with the report but you'll have shown you did everything you possibly could.

That'll cover you just in case she turns up with mummy in the nick tomorrow complaining you left the scene.

TERRY K
I would say yes otherwise If the victim decides to report it after she has told daddy who is a solicitor may decide to report it as a hit and run and you don't know if she has your registration. I would also have a look around for witnesses. Cover your own **** so to speak.

Daisy
i would report it and let me tell you why...if someone else saw it they could report it as a hit and run and if you don't report it...it could come back on you...if you just call and fill out a report with the police chances are nothing will happen as the victim ran off...but if you don't you could be in serious trouble...

Dora
Yes you should still report this. The girl could of ended up in hospital even if she did leave the scene better to be safe then sorry.

How would it look if you didn't report it? It would look really bad. At least if you report it to the police they will have it on record that you phoned.

echo c
unless someone is injured the police don't automatically get involved, so technically no

however, if it bugs you, report it and feel better

louby loo
yes i would or maybe go in to the school they might be able to help but dont beat yourself up about it you did all you could at the time

I would just to be safe, as she may feel fine at the time of the accident, but the next morning she could have injuries.

Yes! report it for all the good reasons above already written. Why were you driving in spite of a stopped school bus? In the east coast, we must stop for a school bus, be on the same or the opposite lane........for safety of our children.

many animals have been hit and ran off only die later of injuries report it

Yes, you need to call the police and have an officer do a report because the school bus driver should have had the lights flashing and if he didn't and he didn't report you he probably was drunk

Report it or risk the victim or a witness reporting it & you getting done for failing to report an accident - a fine even if the rest was not your fault - thus you become the victim.

Reporting the accident does not mean you will be fined - especially if you are the only one to report it.

Adds
by the law you should really still report it so that way the police will know about it and you are covered in case someone else tells them about it,
if you don't tell them about it and anything else happens then the police may have to come out and look for you,
at least it you are honest and up-front about it they will know you are not hiding things
hope that is some help to you?

Tastebud
I think theoretically yes. However there is probably not much that can be done because the victim ran away.

Jeremy G
If she got up and ran away then I'd say she's ok. Therefore you shouldn't have to report it..

yes because sometimes you dont relize your hurt till a few mins later and she could wind up in the hospital or worse

thatsnotevenaquestion
theres not really any point. no-ones been injured, and anyway the girl probably wont identify herself. Just be extra careful next time. Lesson learnt!
