WHY IS TRAFFIC SAFETY IMPORTANT?

Apparently, quite a few folks don't think that safety is an issue. And a good number of those drivers are dead, along with some of their passengers, occupants of other vehicles involved, even some pedestrians. If a vehicle is defective, every vehicle like it is declared a hazard to travel and is recalled to correct the offending defect. Yet most collisions are caused by the driver. Often the drivers are killed or injured so badly that they can't come back later and duplicate their performance. And there are that many fewer drivers on the road. There is no public outcry for improving the proficiency of drivers. So in the meantime, lipservice is paid by the government and automotive industry saying how safe our cars and roads are. And nothing changes - people keep dying and ruining their lives while behind the wheel. Until focus is shifted to the driver or the vehicle is made to operate without an operator, nothing is really going to change. Thousands will be killed with millions more injured every year.
