WHY do so many people drive with their fog lights on ALL THE TIME?

I don't get it. Are they just trying to be cool? Maybe they don't know how to turn them off?

And some people have driving lights on with their low beams. Driving lights are high beams and should not be wired to be on with low beams.
Additional Details
There is a difference between headlights,fog light AND running lights. I do know the difference.

I am in Pennsylvania.
My question is about drivers who have their headlights and fog lights on at the same time both in the day time and at night when there isn't any fog.

There really is no reason for using fog lights when there is no fog.

Most people (mainly kids, but there are some adults), think that they look cool.

Fog lights can be very useful if designed correctly. But they can also be very dangerous to everyone else if designed poorly.

Also the other lights that you are talking about are called (DRL) daytime running lights and those are for safety reasons.

Maybe they cannot see well. I know when my day runners are on I get strange looks, horns honked, and heads shaking as they mouth something. Fog lights are a pain as they blind me when on oncoming vehicles. Even worse are those halogen head lights. Tailgaters especially get me really upset. I have to turn my rear view mirror up and re adjust my side mirror. I get blinded. I try to get away from them as best and safely as I can. I drive a lot in the dark, literally.

I can't think of many models that ONLY turn on fog lights by "default" as the daytime running lights. So, the argument that they don't know how to turn them off would be a load of baloney.

I would think that it is guys that think they are studly, cuz it looks tough and "evil" to drive with just fog lamps on. You never see 87 year old Mildred in her 1992 Pontiac doing it. It's always some giant black SUV with tinted windows and 22" rims, coming at you down the road like Satan's helper.

I don't drive with my fog lights, but I do drive with my daytime headlights. You'd be surprised at how many people still can't see cars coming from the opposite direction.

They become especially useful in rural two-lane roads. When a car is passing another car, it's hard to see if a car's coming from the opposite direction. The daytime headlights become useful then.

I don't know what's the difference in the lights but my car has its lights on anytime the engine is on. They turn on automatically, I cant help it.

Not all vehicles use the high beams for the daytime running lights. Some use the fog lights, some use the parking lights.

You should not be offended. You should be happy that the other drivers are making themselves more noticeable so you don't hit them.

Yeah. Gotta watch out for those dangerous fog lights!

Besides...the lights are pointed towards the ground. No real safety hazard in having 2 extra lights running on the front of your vehicle.

I don't know, but I would guess it depends on where they live.
I live in the Midwest, and the weather is crummy now....dull, gray and overcast most days...so most folks drive with their fog lights on at night, but their regular headlights in the daytime.

You don't mention where you are located. In the United States, automobiles manufactured since 1994 are required by law to have headlights or fog lights on whenever the engine is running, and the cars are wired that way. There is no way to turn them off.

You get used to it eventually.
