WIll a 00' Suburban 5.3L tow a 29' Travel Trailer?

My wife & I are considering purchasing a 09 Skyline Nomad 297. This is a 29ft unit with a slide out. It's dry Weight is 6900lbs. I have sales people that say that it can work. But I also have heard that it might be pushing the limits. Does anyone think that this is okay to work? Will it cause more damage to the transmission?

You will be fine just make sure that you have a transmission oil cooler on the truck and if not install one and good luck. |

It will tow it. Just keep it in tow haul mode for the transmission.
I tow a 27' Toy Hauler with 3 quads and a buggy inside it along with all our gear and food behind my 1995 Chevy K1500. |

CALIFornia goes by GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT. The towing vehicle should have a decal somewhere near the driver's door jam, that indicates the acceptable towed weights. If you exceed the trailer's dry weight or allowed axle weight, you might have a problem. There are "WEIGH STATIONS" along most of the freeways that will becon you to stop in for a weight check. Overweight vehicles and trailers will likely be cited for any number of infractions either by the towing vehicle or the towed Travel Trailer. Transmission damage can be incurred with overweight or underweight conditions, not the length of the trailer. |

Well, Draw-Tite makes a hitch that rated to tow up to 10,000 lbs weight carrying, and 12,000 lbs weight distributing. The part is #41930 and you can view it here:

These are the parts if your suburban is pre-wired.
Now the hitch is rated to tow that amount based on the frame. To find out what your suburban can truly tow, you'll have to check your owners manual.

I would really check out the towing ability of your Suburban. It might tow it but the big question is can it stop it, that is what usually gets people in trouble. Remember the sales people want the trailer off the lot and money in their pocket.
