A guy hit me with his truck, enough to hurt my arm, and then went on a tirade against me before I could wait for an apology. I had an officer come out and he was arrested. I'm waiting for a police report. I did go to the emergency room to get checked out. I plan to open a claim with his insurance company. The officer gave me his insurance information, but couldn't tell me whether or not he had full coverage. Anyway, when I get the bill from the hospital I plan to open a claim, but I was wondering if I need to get a lawyer or can I just talk directly to his insurer about this. Thanks

Get a lawyer definitely. And whatever you do DON'T sign any papers or accept any settlements that the other driver's insurance company may offer until you have a lawyer look at it. |

If you are not a lawyer yourself then get one. Get the best so you can penalize the erring driver and optimize your financial settlement (and your lawyer's too). It is a big hassle if you pursue the lawsuit yourself. Its a big pain negotiating the legal process, believe me. And insurance lawyers from the opposing party will try that tactic to discourage and frustrate you. Good luck. |

It never hurts to talk to a lawyer, and it may be the best thing you can do if you think you have a legal problem that you can't resolve yourself.
If you're persistent, you can probably arrange a free consultation with a lawyer who will talk to you on the matter.
