What's the benefits of having anti-lock brakes? can you please explain in details?

and I'm 18 driving about a year and an half now, do you think you think i need it?

ABS is a spin off from the anti skid that we have on jet airplanes. I won't get into how they work but anybody who tells you that you don't need them is on glue. They reduce the stopping distance of a large jet aircraft by almost half. More on a wet or snowy runway. All you have to do is stand on the brakes as hard as you can and let the computer and the hydraulics do the rest. Automobiles with ABS work exactly the same way. Don't listen to anybody that says you don't need them.

The great thing about ABS is that is compensates for people's lack of skill to brake properly in emergencies.

I have my own opinion about this.
I drive a vehicle with ABS (anti-lock brakes). I drive it as though I don't have them. Anti-brakes are for people who can't drive. They prevent your brakes from locking up when you slam them on during poor weather (snow, heavy rain, gravel). This allows some steering control while your foot is hammered down on the brake pedal.
If you use preventive measures such as slowing down, following further back and using your visual skills and good judgement in anticipating hazards ahead, you should never have to use anti-lock brakes.
If you learn how to brake properly and steer around hazards without using the brakes, you'll be a better driver.
You may want anti-lock brakes, but you'd be better off learning the limitations of your vehicle and take a winter driving course to learn how to control your vehicle in poor weather conditions.

The coefficient of friction between the road surface and the tire is maximized at the instant just before the tire skids. This is desireable in order to stop quicker and in a controlled manner.

Anti-lock brakes keep the tires from skidding, trying to maximize this coefficient.

It is perhaps the best saftey feature on your car, and should always be required.

not needed but very good to have if you want to have control of your car while braking hard.

If you slam on your brakes in a normal car ... the wheels tend to lock up causing a skid ... when you skid you can not steer away from danger, like a pedestrian or on coming traffic.

"Anti-lock brakes" is a wheel sensory system that detects if a wheel locks up durring a hard brake. If the system detects a lock up it will immediately release the wheel enough to slow down without skiding.

It comes in handy on slippery roads if you drive like a maniac on wet streets or on snow.

You will save a lot on your insurance, and you will be able to stop sooner in bad weather.

each wheel is controlled by computerand will appy brakes so they wont lock up they reduce
the pressure being appied to the brakes at each wheel yes i would get it but its not absutely ness.

Personally I do not like anti-skid brakes.I like to be able to have complete control and feel of braking. But for a driver of average skills a ABS will be beneficial because most amateur drivers do not know how to apply techniques such as power feathering,or brake modulation, and gear changes in a critical stopping or avoidance situation.

i personally dont like them. when they start to go theyre dangerous. the old manual brakes or vacuum assisted brakes are much simpler and cheaper and give you a better feel for what the car is doing.

not a bad idea, kinda like hocky pucks vs bubble gum, what sticks better?

The situation where you most desperately need your brakes to do their best are most likely the situation where you will be most panicked and slam the brakes with very little desire to release them to regain the tires' grip on the road.
In the situation where your tires loose control - that be on a dry road, wet road, or on ice - you need to be really really cool to convince yourself to lift that right foot a little. This is where the ALB/ABS system helps you.
Even the most experienced driver can panick and lock that foot - the ALB/ABS system is a computer and do never panick.
Only downside I see with ALB/ABS is if a person gets scared from the pounding feeling it gives through the pedal you and releases the pressure on the brake. But this is where the never brake assist system sets in. Brake assist systems are designed to assist the driver in an emergency situation by applying the maximum possible brake pressure. The system interprets hard, fast brake applications as an emergency situation and applies the maximum brake force to obtain the shortest possible braking distance. A brake assist operates in combination with the ALB/ABS unit.
Consider this, truckers are 'professional' drivers - but how often do see an 18 wheeler making an emergency braking without 'jack-knifing'?
That would not happen if the semi's in US had ALB/ABS like they have in Europe.

Countless times I've had anti-lock brakes almost cause an accident. When driving on bad roads I always stay in tune with how much traction I have. ABS causes the braking power to become almost non-existent. Instead of stopping you roll on and on and on. In each case I could have stopped the vehicle in a short distance. Instead, with no braking power the car just keeps going and going. They are especially bad on gravel roads. They come on for no reason. I've experienced this in several different makes and models from pickups to mini-vans.
