What Should I Do About My Speeding Ticket?

What Should I Do About My Speeding Ticket?

I did! Should I plead guilty to avoid going to the courthouse since I'm busy or not guilty? Will it affect my insurance? Will I get points on my license?
Additional Details
This is my first and hopefully only time!

Always plead NO CONTEST! Your not saying that your guilty and your not saying that your not guilty. If its your first ticket your fines will probably be reduced and all you have to do is pay the fine. If you do not your license will be suspended and you will have a warrant.

melodi
Pay it and learn to obey the speed limit.

do the crime do the time. You will get points. How many times before you were caught?

I don't know how it is in your state mine (the state of confusion) you don't have to go to court you can send in the fine (bail) and apply to take traffic school....you get to sign up for it on line and then most of the classes let you print a certificate of completion to mail to the court and some of them will notify the court of your completion....you have to pay a fee for the class on top of your fine (bail) but the ticket will not go on your driving record.....in my state you can only take traffic school once every 18 months.....

if it's a moving violation, consult a traffic lawer. sometimes for a fee it can be reduced to a non moving violation (in some states) That will save you some $$$$ in the long run.

Go to the court date. Ask the judge if he would consider reducing the charges. Many times they will reduce it to a lesser moving violation or sometimes-if you're lucky-even a nonmoving violation. This would impact your license/ins. less than the full speeding charge.

Since you are busy, your time is probably worth more. Than any benefit you would get from going to court.

You might want to check and see if you qualify for traffic school. So you could get it reduced, or eliminated from your record. You might be able to do that online in your free time.
