What about driving and applying makeup?

I know everyone complains about people driving and cell phones, which I consider dangerous. But what about those women who put on make up. I was almost ran over by a woman putting MASCARA on. I was actually rear ended at a stop light because the lady was looking at a magazine at the same time. I have seen people looking at computers and doing paper work. Maybe the police should be able to pull over people doing things that could be potentiallly dangerous and give warnings. What do you Think?

You make an excellent point. I would go so far as to say that applying makeup, shaving, reading, using a laptop, etc., are actually far more dangerous of a distraction than simply using a cell phone. Talking on a cell phone allows you to still be watching the road, while the others draw your visual attention away from the road, with the notable exception of text messaging.

Can cops pull people over for this kind of driving? Well, if they are driving erratically, weaving in thier lane, not signaling, tailgating, etc, then yes, they are braking the law and certainly can be, and the best part is they don't need any special new laws to do it. Because while I believe that poor driving is something that someone should be cited for, I do not believe we need to pass a whole slew of new "common sense" laws in order to enforce it. Someone who can drive safely (obeying the rules of the road) while talking on a phone shouldn't have to be penalized for the joker who can't maintain speed, signal, or is cutting people off while talking on theirs.

Actually, you can get pulled over for that. It's considered reckless driving in some areas. My old roommate got pulled over and given a warning for brushing her hair at a stoplight (that was red at the time). When she got pulled over the cop asked her if she knew why she got pulled over. Of course she had no clue, because she was stopped at the light and wasn't speeding or anything before that. Then he told it it was because she was brushing her hair, even though she was completely stopped before she started her grooming and didn't commit any moving violations.
But, I agree. I just wonder how these people would feel if they ran over some little kid crossing the road because they weren't paying attention.
On a side note, on the show Mythbusters, they did a test to see which was worse- driving after having a few drinks, or driving and talking on a cell phone. The drivers did worse while talking on the phone than they did after a couple of beers! Scary!

I wish those women would stop that years ago I was in the car with my girlfriend and she was doing that it scared the sh__ out of me she nearly ran into a ditch not to mention the car ahead of us . I think if anyone is doing this it is a danger and should be giving a warning

I had a friend who did this regularly on her way to work, I was her passenger only once. Too scary. People eating while driving scares me too.

I have seen times ilke this many times. Once, I saw a woman typing on her laptop, talking on her cell phone, and apply mascara all at the same time while trying to DRIVE on the HIGHWAY!!!!! I think its crazy! There should definetly be some stop to this! Whether its a law or police pulling people over, something needs to happen or lots of people are going to die! God BLess

Definitely. I remember being on a county road during the summer. I had my very young son ( 0-6mos old) with me and this car behind me kept getting really close to me, then backing off. It just kept happening so I was like what in the world. Well when she came close again, I got the best look I could in my rearview mirror and she was putting her hair up! Both hands on her head!

Although a couple of years ago I witnessed a police officer driving down the road drinking out of a large cup, one hand on the cup, the other hand patting the bottom of the cup so that he could get all of the ice in his mouth. His head was back.. no hands on the wheel, and he obviously couldn't see where he was going. Strange how things work.
