What age can I turn off child locks on my car?

Well, it's possible they still "mess around" with them because they can! I mean honestly, kids get bored and if they know that flipping the handle does nothing then why not do it, and annoy mom or dad alittle.

I would think if you explained to them that you are trusting in them not to mess with the doors while driving, giving them the added freedom (and safety) of being able to open the doors themselves, and explained the dangers of opening a door while the car is moving, I think you'd be okay. Particularly if they are belted in!

What would happen if you became incapacitated for some reason and they couldn't open the door to get you help?

7 or 9? If they are normal kids, they are old enough to handle the responsibility. My child is 5 and does just fine.

Those children are old enough to know better. You'll have to think up an appropriate discipline, but I doubt that you can if they're still playing with the door handles at those ages. That's a sign that you're the one who has no clue. Do they play electronic games or listen to headphones in the car? Take that away. If they play with the door handles, they decided that's how they want to entertain themselves. No books, no nothing. Just the door handles until they both grow up enough to leave them alone. Sit them down and spell it out for them, and don't back down. Yes, you'll have some uncomfortable car trips. And you tell their friends the rules if they ride along, too. Nothing but door handles because your kids made that choice. No law says you can't humiliate your kid into good behavior. It's rather effective.

kids are baby goats and i would not haul them in a car,get a pickup to take them to market.if you have children its not the age but the mentality of the child,teach them and do it well !!!

I've used the child locks for 18 and 19 year olds and sometimes even old, it's a great gag.

Decide on a proper punishment for messing with the locks! and don't just warn them, actually punish them for playing with the door handle. Then wait until they stop doing it. Or just leave the locks on for your and your children's general safety. Its not such a big deal to have the locks on!

drive around in ur neighborhood w the child locks off..when they try messin with the handle floor it, then slam on the brakes. do this enough times that they learn that mommy is crazy and if we do this anymore we r gonna get hurt. screaming while u do this will emphasize ur lesson here.
