There are three new driving laws that are going around, they haven't been enforced yet, but what are your thoughts on it?

Well, I live in Calgary, Alberta and am a new driver too; but I am 38.
We have the "zero-tolerance" alcohol law, which makes socializing difficult...as I can't drink anything!
First year - can't drive after midnight and must always have a licensed driver with you when driving. No more people in the car then there are seatbelts (duh). Zero-alcohol tolerance. Points are double.
Second year - driving after midnight is fine, allowed to drive on your own, same # of people allowed in the car. Zero-alcohol tolerance. Points are double.
Third year - same as the second year. The test is 1.5 hours long, after you have passed, then you are on probation for another year!
Fourth year - probation.
We dont have the speeding law or the # of people allowed in the car thing. The population of Ontario is the greatest of all the provinces...which is why you are getting hit with this.

This gets asked about three times a day.
The new rules are absolutely brilliant.
If you want to drink, don't drive.
That's simple enough.
Don't have too many people in your car.
That's simple enough.
Don't speed.
That's simple enough.
Basically, aside from the passenger things, it just says "hey, don't break the law, and you can keep driving". That should just be common sense. So, the new laws really don't change anything. They just enforce what people should do anyway. |
