Snow chains are segmented links of heavy metal strung together and will fit tires in accordance to the size of the tire (i.e., 14" rims, 15" rims, etc.). There is a link similar to a necklace connection at each end of the lateral snow chains. In order to make them stay on the tire, they have to be connected around the tread of the tire. The tire has to be on the snow chain in order to connect it around the tire...the car must be rolled on to the chain and, then, connected at each end.
With or without snow tires, the chains "bite" in to the heavier snow and ice for better traction on the ground surface. The snow chains are no guarantee your vehicle will not skid...precaution is still needed.
Furthermore, if you do not remove the snow chains from your tires after the heavy snow and ice either clear or you travel out of it, your tires WILL BE damaged by acquiring a flat from the chains puncturing them. |

Snow chains are metallic chains for automobile tires for severe winter driving in mountains. Snow chains are mainly used on semi-trucks in the western United States mountains.
There are 2 types of snow chains actually; the chains, and there are snow cables....chains are more durable but heavier, cables are lighter and more weak. There are regulations that differ from each state in the west for using snow chains and drivers must abide by them. |

they are chains that go around your tires and protect you from sliding everywhere...thought everyone knew that or are you a new driver if so then ask your local auto part store about them and believe me they usually get those questions so don't feel stupid asking about that... |
