On my first day of driver's ed, the instructor invited a cop to come into the classroom. He choose a student out of the crowd and asked that student to sit on a stool in the front of the class room. He then told the officer to "Go ahead".
The officer pulled out his 9mm pistol and aimed it just to the right of the kid. The teacher then said, when you drive, every day you come this close to death. One small mistake could cost you your life because you are riding sometimes only a foot from oncoming traffic. I want to teach you how to drive safely... so pay attention.
The officer then put his squirt gun back in his holster and left.
Personally I think a cap gun would have been more effective. |

One the first rule will be the seat belt..
The second rule you should always indicate is to follow the speed limits;
By driving slow young "learning" drivers are able to see and obey all the signs. |

It might seem harsh but you can show examples or talk about serious and fatal car crashes tha has happened. |

take them to see some living people who are disabled for life. then take them to to see dead people. not pictures or films. they dont seem to work as well. my teacher did the same thing. it was alot of red tape, but it worked well. i am 40 and i have 0 accidents and 0 tickets. plus it helps with insurance. |

show them very graphic photos of wrecked cars, so they might realize driving safety is no joke. |

either sit them in a room with computers and crap that simulate what happens in accidents, or just let them learn the hard way, that always works best for me. |

a nice slide show of past accidents that involves 16-19 yr olds and the cause of the wreck as decided by the police report |

The best and most effective way is to make them see the results that occur when driver safety is not used. To hear from the parents and siblings of people in that age group who have either died. become bed or wheelchair bound, lost limbs, sight, etc. One can preach and teach all they want but the reality of the results carry much more impact than words ever will. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) can be a tremendous resource in providing materials, videos, and even speakers. |
