What are the advantages/disadvantages of the car airbags ?

import guy
advantages are you dont DIE (if you are tall enough and over 12 years old)
disadvantages you will most likely be injured in a low speed collision that you would have other wise been fine in, if they are deployed, consider your car totaled (even if you just trip a sensor working on your car) and the steering wheel that houses an airbag is ugly lol

If your face is too close to the steering wheel, a smaller person can have their head ripped off...

well just think about this racecar drivers dont use airbags.. and they are prepared to crash. airbags burn you. they can break your arms, if your not positioned exactly right at time of accident they can really hurt you .. i suggest aftermarket wheel and fourpoint harnesses if you stay in the seat you cant get as hurt,

There are far more negatives than positives!! There is tons of evidence that they have injured or killed far more people than they have saved. Consider: race cars do NOT have air bags - their seat belts alone keep drivers alive, and usually uninjured, in crashes of well over 100 MPH; the ratio of injuries and deaths to lives saved is such that if you took a new medical device with similar stats to the FDA for approval, it would be rejected; if you are not "positioned" perfectly behind the steering wheel, an air bag "deploying" can turn a simple fender-bender into a disaster (happened to my Uncle); if your hand is on the horn - a reasonable reaction to an imminent accident - you will probably be mained. Despite these facts, the govt. continues to require air bags simply because they hate to ever admit they were wrong. The least they should do is to permit on-off switches. Hope this clears up a few things. Thanks for asking! Have a nice day!

As long as your are properly distance from the steering wheel it may save your life, Children have a like ability of getting hurt and some have died. Be safe and be at least 14 inches away from the steering wheel when you drive and keep your hands at the 9 and 3 o'clock position so to keep your arms from getting broken in case the Air Bag gos off. God Bless

Advantage:They could save your life
Disadvantage:They can hurt you if u are too close

with air bags you are less likely to go through the window. without you will get a few cuts and bruises maybe a broken nose

They can save your life but if they deploy after an accident not during an accident they will hurt you. Also little kids can be killed by an airbag.

Pros: Significantly less chance of head, neck and shoulder injury. Cheaper insurance.

Cons: Expensive to replace. Makes for a difficult job if you want to replace your steering wheel with an aftermarket one. Slight chance of minor burns on the inside of the forearms (not a big deal, considering the alternative!)

Advantages and Disadvantages of Airbags Airbags are most protectable with the combination of a seatbelt, they reduce the rish of head, neck, and chest injury by 75%. They also inflate right after the crash so that the airbag does'nt suffocate the person. Although those advantages are good, there are disadvantages that are pretty bad as well, like the speed of the airbag, the speed of the bag can cause whiplash, potentially fatal head and chest injuries or concussions. Airbags has caused 264 deaths since NHTA have been recording them, but they also have saved 20,000 lives. Sometimes, in a slow moving crash, the airbag can come out and hurt you more than the crash itself. They can also, if you are not wearing a seatbelt, cant protect you from flying out the window,
