What are the dangers of riding on a donut spare tire?

I have a friend who has been riding on her donut spare tire for a month. I have tried to tell her that this is dangerous but I have no sure facts to back me up. Please help!

Look at the tire--You can clearly see that the tire is of very little substance compared to the regular tire. This is only a tire for emergency use, which is good for say---50 miles ! This also means maybe 25 miles today and 25 miles tomorrow ( or 10 today and 40 next time you need it ) but you should terminate the use of the tire after it has rolled 50 miles--TOTAL.
The tire is also only recommended at speeds under 50 miles per hour. This means you can risk your life if you drive on this tire at a speed higher than 50 miles per hour. It seems that the number 50 has a huge significance when relating to this TEMPORARY tire . I hope this clears everything up about the dough-nut tire.

read the tire, it says TEMPORARY USE ONLY AND DONT NOT EXCEED 50 MPH. hows that

the tire might blow out and riding on it for excessive amounts of time can ruin your rims!!!

johnryan123
worse think that will happen is the tire will blow.. if money is an issue find a retread shop or cheap tire place thats not a corporate/chain name..

They're not designed for long term use. Treads are not as thick or wide.

Compare the amount of rubber on the road between the doughnut tyre and the real tyre on the other side. Then imagine what happens if your friend has to break suddenly (for a child running in thestreet, someone jumping a stop sign etc ...) The doughnut tyre will lock up almost immediately, but the other tyre won't, so the car will slew sideways and completely out of control !

If I bought a car with a doughnut spare, I would throw it away and replace it with a REAL wheel from a scrapyard ... safety is more important than a little extra space in the boot !!!

They are only good for 50 miles at 50 mph. So tell Her to get it fixed.

Those donut spares are not designed to be used for any more than a few miles and not at any great speed ( not more than 50mph ) I'm surprised that your friend has not had that tire come apart and cause her to lose control of her car, cuz that is what will happen!!!!

Hmm.. have you ever thought if she is just having a hard time buying a tire at this time? If she is not having a hard time then she needs to evaluate her saftey vs her life because a spare is ment to ony be a temporary fix.

That you'll park the car somewhere and everybody else will swap their donuts with one of your remaining tires
