no alcoholic beverage can be carried, open, in the passenger part of the car. Only closed and in a closed "boot" (like when you come back from doing your shopping.
The Driver must not drink (coffee, tea, or water) at all, while driving a vehicle, because this inevitably means he has one hand of the "wheel" and therefore is not in complete control of the car (essential to the law).
The passengers can drink (non-alcoholic of course) or eat, as long as they do not distract the driver nor endanger other users of the road (not only by causing the driver of their car to swerve or make unnecesary or unsafe maneuvres, but also by throwing things out of the window).
Hope this helps.
You can go to WHSmith or any bookstore or library and read up the latest edition of the Highway Code - something that you should read anyway when arriving in the country to see what is different to your own customs, and that will be expected of you if you are involved in a collision or accident. If you are driving here you cannot claim ignorance of the rules! |

Not sure what you mean. If you're referring to food or drinks containers, it's not a problem for the passenger, only the driver. |

If you're talking about alcohol, it's illegal and you're gonna get busted no matter which state; it's just too much of a safety issue for the driver of the car, passengers and others. Word of advice: keep it in the trunk of the car so you wont be tempted whether driving or not. BE SAFE! |

I'msure they differ from state to state and country to country but in Texas, it illegal. |

generally you are ok with an open container for the passenger .as long as it is not for the drivers use , a distraction or being carried in a manner likely to be a danger to other road users.ie hanging it out of the window as you pass a cyclist ! |
