What are the rules about obstructing peoples driveways?

Our driveway is really tight to get onto and you need quite a lot of space on the road to swing the car into it. I have to park the front of the car between a brick wall which I'm about two inches away from and my house bricks where the bay window comes out (also about 2-3 inches away from). So once on the driveway it's pretty tight to manourve. The trouble is this idiot keeps parking right as tight as he can to the drive where the brick wall is. You know where the kerb drops he parks right at the end of the drop rather than where it starts. Is he allowed to do this?? He sounds silly but it does really make it difficult. If somebody did it the other side also which does happen sometimes I spend so many turns and twists trying to get the car in. If people are parked across the road opposite to where my drive is it is impossible to get in. Could somebody please tell me the rules on this.

you can call the police and have them look, you ar not suppose to block driveways at all.

As far as i know if he is taxed and insured as long as he actually isnt blocking your driveway he can park there ... sorry it sux...

I'm afraid you have no "rights" to insist on. Other than that legally no-one is permitted to park on the highway except in a designated parking space. To do so is obstructing the highway. I'd try talking to him.

What you should also do when this person has blocked you drive is go out and take pictures of the offence. This gives you a record of evidence of what is going on. Also if the fool doing this sees you they may think about parking there in the future.

I'm not sure of the exact laws regarding this but you can contact your local council and ask them (not sure where your from so can't provide you with a number). You could also ask them about have road marking painted maybe, like double yellows or something.
Have you also talked to the person who is blocking your drive, maybe explain to them what you have explained here?
If they are blocking your drive to the point that you can't get in or out, i'm pretty sure you can call the council and i think they come out and give them a parking ticket, although don't quote me on that (i'm sure the police don't get involved with this sort of thing anymore, unless violence ensues, typical!). I once received a parking ticket for parking across a driveway (not on purpose), so it can be issued, just don't know for sure by whom.

You can go and talk to him, explain that if he was parking his car another way it would be easier for you to manoeuvre your car.
If he is on his driveway, he is allowed to park the way he wants.

I can't be 100% sure, but I don't think there are any legal avenues you can use unless there are double yellow on the road there. Your best option is to ask the local authorities what you can do about it.

See if the offending car has got an up to date tax disc, find out if the car is illegal in any way then you can report it and get it towed away.

i had a similar problem and got in contact with local council. you cant do anything about it i'm afraid. the road is public, you do not have any further rights just because your drive is attached to it. Its conscientious to not park in someones way but not the law. thats unless you have a permit?

If he is blocking your driveway then it is illegal for him to park there. However, it might have to come down to getting your title plans for the house and having a look where the driveway ends and starts.

I dont know if this is true but I heard that its illegal to block someone IN a drive but not OUT.

You cant do this and you should contact the police department or just try and talk with this person.
