What can I do about my first speeding ticket?

I was pulled over on Highway 12 about a moth or so ago. I am 16 years old and had only had my liscense for about 4-5 months at the time. I was recorded going 66 in a 55 while entering a construction zone, so this doubled it. In my car the top part of the seatbelt is automatic, but not the bottom and I forgot to buckle it. This added $100 or more. The total came to $355. This is my first traffic infraction and I was wondering what I could do to lower it or Defer it, and how a deferment works. I chose a Mitigation Hearing and am schedualed for December 10, 2007. Any help?

I believe you can attend a drivers safety course and get it either lowered or completely gone but I'm not sure that it applies when you are in a construction zone.

Sometimes you can work out a payment plan with the court. Another option would be to ask for community service in place of a fine

Go to court, see the prosecutor before the trial, admit guilt, he will reduce points and fine. they do this to save court time but it's in your favor.

If you are guilty, there might be little that you can do. That being said, you should show up and not try to whine your way out of the ticket. I would say something like you know that you did wrong and admit that you were speeding. Then state that you always buckle up, but had forgotten on this trip. You might get a reduction.

in most or all states, you can go to traffic school or take an on-line course

completing this will get this ticket off your record...saving you tons in insurance rate hikes

Where I grew up, if you went to court on your court date for a non-required court appearance the judge would usually drop the fines lower, especially for your first offence.

Don't let anyone tell you " if the cop doesn't show its dismissed" Its not true. In some cases the police officer can write in his statement. In others Its all up to the courts. GO to your mitigation hearing, since its your first offense it will most likely be defered or reduced depending on your judge. Then if its defered you have to pay generally $85. But it will be off your record as if youve never gotten it. Soyour insurance won't go up. Good luck.

Death alley in California? You deserve what you got. More people are killed on that stretch then anywhere else. Pay the ticket and ease up on the pedal son. Besides the public has been warned often about driving too fast on that stretch.

Go to traffic court (the court appearance on the ticket), sit through it, and the ticket will get reduced. Talk to your insurance agent and see if they'll reduce it, ONLY if your insurance goes up. I got a ticket and my insurance stayed the same, so they might not catch it at first.

I dont know about the speeding part but I have the same kind of seatbelts and got a ticket for not wearing my lap belt, I got pulled over because I had a headlight burned out. I tried to play dumb in court and say that I didnt know I had to wear it but I still had pay. I dont know why they even allow you to contest, nobody ever seems to win when they try to fight tickets. Let me tell you though, I wont forget to put that damn lap belt on the next time those lights are flashing behind me!

you could try to fight it at court and they reduce it just for you showing at least in ma. and if the cop doesnt show its wiped
