What can I do about people speeding up and down my road?

I live right outside of city limits. Literally one block. There are no speed limit signs (like that would stop anyone) and no sidewalks. But half the town has no sidewalks. I walk most every day, pushing my son in his stroller, into town. It never fails that countless of cars speed on by without even slowing down! This even happens in town. I'm so sick of this! Should I stop walking just because people have no respect? Not only could they hit us but they could throw gravel at us. I'm not sure what I can do.

The cops will do nothing because it's outside city limits.

I moved a little while ago from a nice neighborhood where I could walk around a child friendly area even without sidewalks - (the street was a circle and not traveled much other that the people who lived there. Now I live on a busier street, 35 mph with few sidewalks.

This is what I have done, I hope I can help.

1 - I did some local park research which of course is more work, however our children are always worth a little more effort. I thought I would loose out the interaction with the other kids and parents but to my delight they too where at the park!

2 - I bought these bright neon signs that say SLOW CHILDREN PLAYING - but they are only effective if you take them down frequently - they will get ignored if they are always up. I put them up and down on the weekends.

I hope that this helps - Going to the park will not be fun the first few times because of the obvious hassle, but then I began to look forward to it. On the weekends with my signs up I am alert and safe with my children.

cops are lying. they have the duty to help you in any way REGARDLESS of vicinity of authority. you can make a report, getting signatures and names of people near you who feel the same then report it to the city hall.

Dont stop walking because of ignorant people. Perhaps you can talk to the local police and maybe they could have a officer set on the edge of the city limits once or twice a week, that will slow them down as well and they will go slower all the time because they wont be sure if he is going to be there or not.

Complain to the cops that have jurisdiction outside the city limits. Give them license #s. In the mean time YES quit risking yours and your sons life. People are idiots. I drive for a living and trust me I see them without fail every time I drive.

OK so here's the plan

Place a massive amount of snapple bottle caps in the road overnight. These caps will pop when people drive over them, not hurting the car tires but becoming really annoying and making them slow down.

well walking on the side of any road is dangerous much less pushing a kid in a buggy might find a better time to do it you walking against the cars like you should you shoul dbve able to see them coming and step aside

on he road i live people drive their car like this is only race track in the UK all the day or night they kill small animal like cats few days ago they kill my priceless cat I took him in the animal hospital but three latter he died what i do to it can stop my worry is in this way these driver can kill child and can get away
