What can I do if a neighbor's car is leaking gasoline but nobody is doing anything about it?
Find answers to your legal question.

What can I do if a neighbor's car is leaking gasoline but nobody is doing anything about it?

I moved into my apartment in October and called management the very first day to let them know about the guy's car leaking gasoline. Now it is the middle of Feb. and he is still parked outside, with gas dripping all over the parking lot. It's not considered a 'spill', but it is a steady drip. I know the guy has to put more money into paying for gas than anything else. The car is still drivable, and there isn't anything in our lease that says anything about gas leaking from your car. It only states that you aren't allowed to do maintence in the parking lot.
I have been calling our management and security since Oct. and all they do is leave notes on his door. I know people that work for the EPA, but I don't want to deal with the hassle they will cause. But I still want to do something without causing a big fuss or making our management too mad. I pay a lot to live in a very nice place (minus my neighbor) and feel that something more should be done to remedy the situation. Who do I call?

Just call your local police department and file a complaint. If they won't do anything because it is on private property, then place a call to the fire department. Have a fire inspector come out and view the situation. I'm sure that he'll start some action on getting it towed away.

Obviously, the owner has to be aware of the problem, and for some reason he hasn't done anything about it.

Good luck

Call your local Fire Dept. they will handle the situation. If you call the Police they will call the the Fire Dept. I really would not waste much time in doing this as a gas leak no matter how small is dangerous.

Call the cops or the EPA, it won't be you who has to deal with the hassle. They'll have a HAZMAT team there in no time, and your neighbor will have to pay for it. The leak is hurting you AND the enviroment. Do you have a headache yet? Nausea?

Don't do him any favors. If you complained and nothing was done, than that's tough poo for him.

Drop a match.

Try talking to your neighbor next time you see him out and about. Do you know for certain it is gas? There are other fluids in a car. Go to the source and ask him if he knows. People are so afraid of just talking these days, right away call "Big Brother" but you did do right by calling managment.

have you talked to your neighbor himself?,
maybe the guy has no idea whats going on.

I agree with the others... A MATCH SHOULD END YOUR PROBLEM, AND THE OTHER GUY WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FIXING IT THEN.

tell this person nicely because he might not even know himself. to have a new gas tank could be expensive. or put some epoxy adhesive material over the leak and will seal it forever. epoxy can be use in a wet environment and can seal wet leaks.

Just call your local police department and they will help you with this and good luck.

Call one of the Major Oil Co.s , maybe they'll give the guy a car with two leaking gas tanks. Seriously he should get an award from a gov't. agency that is blocking fuel saving systems.

Get a lawyer and threaten to sue your landlord on the grounds that it is creating a negative quality of life. Or you may want to call your local news outlet and say that there is an environmental issue they need to come and investigate.

And if that doesn't work, put a can under his tank and put the gas into your car. Hey, what the heck, someone might as well get some use out of it. He see's that once or twice, he'll get it fixed.
