What did you do when you got a speeding ticket?

Started driving in November, 1962. Haven't gotten a speeding ticket yet. Have only been caught speeding three times (all before 1971.)

When I received my first speeding ticket, I didn't do anything to get out of it. There are certain times when you should contest a ticket and there are other times, like in my case when you should pay up. For example, I was pulled over for speeding. I was going 13 mph above the speed limit according to the officer. Anyway, I knew I was guilty when it happened, so I didn't fuss about it nor did I attempt to contest it. I paid the ticket in full, learned from it, and I moved on. The thing about getting a speeding ticket is, most of the time the officers are right. Unless you have some sort of evidence that you weren't speeding then I suggest you pay the fine. I knew there was no use contesting it. So I did what I had to do which was pay and learn from that mistake.

If the police didn't use radar or laser to clock your speed, you can fight the ticket in court. And if the officer used radar or laser, you can question if the device was working correctly and when the device was last tested for accuracy. Also, other defenses if the cop used radar, it's possible the cop had someone else on radar speeding and pulled you over, so therefore the cop pulled over the wrong driver. But with laser, laser is more a straight likely chance the cop clocked your speed. A laser shines a light at your car to clock your speed and with radar, it's possible the radar picked up someone else's speed and the cop thought it was you. As other defenses, if the road was dry/clear and sunny day, and there was light traffic and you weren't driving aggressively and you weren't speeding around blind curves (if you had straight road), these are all worth bringing up to the judge when you fight the ticket. Also, if this is your first speeding ticket and you otherwise have a clean driving record, bring that up too.

Get away? I don't know anyone who got away with it...

When I got my ticket, the very same day I visited a traffic ticket specialist. The specialist was able to get the ticket reduced. Granted, the specialist cost more than the cost of the ticket itself, but he was able to get the ticket significantly reduced which saved me thousands of dollars in insurance.

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you donâ€™t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!

I drive like a flaming bat out of H3LL. When I get a ticket it is usually at a high enough speed that there is no point contesting it. I just say a lot of 'yes sirs' and 'I'm sorrys' and pray that the officer knocks it down to a level where I don't lose any points. And I don't make excuses for my speed.

I just consider it part of the cost of enjoying my car.

Get away from it? Don't speed in the first place!

If you were speeding, pay the fee.

It's not rocket science. If you're guilty, you are punished for it.

If you show up, and the cop is not there, the only way you can get out of it, is if you claim you weren't speeding.

If you were, and you say you were not, this is PERJURY. You do not get out of the ticket, you get charged with contempt of the court.

Haven't been done for speeding. Don't speed in the first place then you wouldn't have to try to get out of it.

on a serious note, go to court about it, if the arresting officer is not there they will drop it, but if he is there you will have to explain yourself

i was in quite a hurry so i told the officer just to write the ticket . after about driving 500m i threw it out of the window lmao
