It is dependent on whether the city you live in has a policy of giving these to residents. Here in California, there are a few cities that do this, but it is the exception to the rule. To find out, I would suggest contacting your local Public Works or Dept of Transportation.

I had a similar problem at the in-laws house. Both are disabled and only one car can fit in the driveway. What I did was went to the city public works and the planning dept. I spoke with personnel and justified the need; one car driveway, inconsiderated neighbors who insist on parking in front of in laws house, how far it is for him to walk when Jack@ss neighbors park in front of his house instead of infront of their own house and took lots of pictures to show the need. The final thing I needed to do was take the paperwork showing the doctors note and disabled card from DMV with the number on it and it will be done. The only problem I have with the thing is that I/in-laws have to pay for this curb painting out of pocket to get the painting done--$600. That's a lot of $$$$ when you are on a fixed income. I am trying to get the VA involved as he is a retired/disabled vet.

This was in Cali by the way. So, yes, it can be done.

I do not think you can or at lest I have never heard of it. Call the local DMV or Police and ask them.
