What do you do if the stoplight never turns green?

Edge up to the other lane legally as possible or behind your stopline.

Make a written complaint to local authorities. This may be a defense in court if you get a later ticket, or they may fix the problem.

If you have to wait that long that you are pieved about it and always spend alot of time waiting. Do all that you can to avoid that light, even going out of your way. I bet you would still save time. There will always be stop lights, it is up to you to see them coming.

There's suppose to be another one on your side. Try backing up over it OR what my brother use to make me do run out to the corner and push the button on the signal post to change the light.

If you've been sitting at the light for a long time, like 10 minutes, I think it would be ok to cautiously proceed through the intersection. But if you are concerned that there may be a traffic camera there that will nail you for going through a red light, you could consider calling the police and reporting a traffic light malfunction and ask if it's ok to just go (if you have a cell phone with you).

Either way, I'd call the city/county/state (whatever pertains) and complain that the light isn't changing in a reasonable amount of time and it's making drivers waste gas.

First of all, make sure you are stopped at the stop bar which should be a solid white painted line in the roadway. If none, look for a posted sign indicating the exact location where you should stop. The reason for this is that for traffic intersections that run by computer, vehicle detecting loops are installed in the roadway and if not stopped in the correct location your presence will not be detected and the signal will not turn green in the direction your heading.
If your positioning in the intersection is correct and you still don't get a green light, call in the problem to the local police dept and advise them of the problem. Also, where possible I would make a legal turn such as a right, then turn around and try another approach or maybe cut through a parking lot which would be much safer than just going through a red traffic signal.
