What do you think about cell phones while driving?

I have a friend who is a crazy driver *without* a cell phone. She has poor reactions and is always fiddling around with the radio. Add a cell phone strapped to her ear, and you can imagine the messes she gets herself into.

Truth is, cell phones cause a great distraction while driving. Listening to someone else talking on the phone is more difficult than listening to someone in the car with you, so more of your attention is taken up in this conversation. Add to that the fact that you only have one free hand to drive, and you've got yourself a pretty dangerous situation. What happens if a car comes barreling at you out of nowhere, and you have less than a second to react?

Hands-free makes no difference at all, and this has been proven statistically. It is all a distraction, no matter what sort of hands it is. People will try to do everything else in the car besides driving, and all of it is potentailly fatal. I remember reading an article about things people do while driving, like putting on make-up, reading a newspaper, eating, but the most bizarre case was one driver who was observed washing the insides of all his windows while driving, even the back one!

These idiots should have their vehicles confiscated and they should be thrown in jail for 6 months.

Very dangerous. Refrain from talking on cell phone. However, you can have a cell phone which acts like a speaker phone (it is available in the market). Blue tooth of no use also ear phone cells.

I can't tell you how many times I've been nearly forced off the road by some moron trying to dial, who never even noticed.

It is a regulation in Malaysia not to drive with the cell phone, but many people still do it. They don't think of the accidents it may cause due to the lack of concentration.
But after all, we are so good at bribing the police, and it cost like RM 30 (Approximately 8 USD).

Some people shouldn't use them while driving, because they are too stupid. However, I do not agree with making them illegal for drivers. Doing so punishes millions of innocent people who can talk and drive at the same time, who have never had an accident, like me. I'll be DAMNED if I'm going to suffer because a few knuckleheads spoil things for the rest of us.

just like doing any other thing while driving, put on makeup, comb hair, brush hair, read map, read newspaper, talk with other people in car.... if you can do it without wrecking car, fine, but don't outlaw it, just punish people who cause wrecks, take away their license, for several years.We can't go outlawing every little thing that people do while driving.

I think you should take a road test with a cell. if you pass you can drive while talking, if not you get a ticket if you get caught driving on the phone.

i think its not safe to talk and drive just like it not safe to mess with the radio or put on makeup.you should pull over when your on the phone
