It would alert the other driver which could discourage and prevent more accidents. I think that having sensors is a good idea. Too many accidents occur because the driver was not paying attention. It could be because they driver was on their cell phone talking, or it could be because they did not see the object in their blind spot. This is something that can help save lives, and it can prevent damage to your car. Anything to prevent accidents is a good idea. Sure it may be costly but it can alert the driver to a potential collision. And having sensors can decrease not only the chance of an accident but it cuts down on increasing insurance rates. Anytime you are involved in an accident insurance rates increase.

I think it would significantly reduce the number of times people would reverse into objects by making the driver aware that he/she is closer to an object than he/she may perceive.

A lot of accidents happen when people back up because of blind spots.The sensors warn you when something is behind you so you won't hit it. All new cars should have then.
