They are meant for emergency personnel, so that in the event of an accident they know that there is possibly a child to look for. Children and babies have been known to be thrown clear in their intact car seats into scrub along the side of roads or even slightly older children to leave the vehicle in a daze after an accident and wander off. This is why you should remove the signs from the window when you're travelling without children in the vehicle. |

Rumour has it that the Police and Fire and Rescue services look into vehicles displaying the sign first at road traffic collisions. |

so if there is an accident, the sign tells police or fire crews that there could be a baby trapped under a seat if the car has overturned and that it aint just adults in the car............ |

I thought they referred to the driver |

You do nothing. Hanging those signs are what is called "trend humping". Those people get off to following fads whether they make sense, or not. |

If you don't like baby mama drama or baby father drama, avoid talking to the driver. :) |

The whole premise of the "baby on board" signs / stickers, etc.., is to warn people "Hey - I have a kid(s) in my car so don't be riding my bumper. If you rear-end me and hurt my kid, I will sue the living djoo-djoo out of you".
THAT is the whole Idea. To warn these people to give the car some breathing space. Anyone who's ever driven has people riding their bumpers all the time, every day, all year long. Should the car ahead have to suddenly apply the breaks - the car riding the bumper has no time to slow down and allow for that sudden break of the lead car.
Thats why there are laws that say keep one car length distance for every 10 miles per-hour..., from the lead car. Hardly anyone cares enough about that law and when they end up in a wreck, they curse the guy in the lead car.
Does this help you understand a bit more? I coitenly hope so. Gnyuk-Gnyuk-Gnyuk |

You're supposed to drive carefully and take heed that the driver may be driving much slower than he/she usually would. And as mentioned, when the vehicle is an accident, it lets emergency personnel know that there may be a young child inside to be rescued first. |

It was a fad, like pet rocks and hot pants. As well as attempting to make it OK for the driver to do stupid things because they're distracted by their screaming rugrat yard ape anklebiter child, it's supposed to make the OTHER idiots on the road behave better, as if one of the occupants of the car with the sign is more valuable than the rest of the occupants because it's a baby. In reality, it should not matter who is in the car. People either drive like an azzhole or they don't. I think the funniest thing I ever saw was a toy baby doll nailed to a peice of wood hanging from the bumper of a car. Get it? Baby on BOARD? |

See the Daily Telegraph motoring section today (Saturday 30th).
That is discussed. |

It is, of course, utterly ridiculous having such a sign. Are we supposed to say 'Oh, a BABY on board? OK, well in that case, I won't ram you from behind at 95mph as I would normally do on a Monday morning.' Dear, oh dear! |
|

Couldn't agree more. They should say "Baby On Board, Please Excuse My Poor and Selfish Driving". |

Well whenever I see a car without a baby on board sign, I usually run into it at about 55 mph. If I see a car with it, I don't hit it....
But really, I agree, accidents are ACCIDENTS, they just happen whether you have a sign or not. |

Its probably just coincidence, but as a professional driver they are usually in the car that has just cut across 3 lanes of traffic and just missed my front end, and when I pull alongside to politely point this out the driver is leaning over the back seat adjusting baby.
Maybe it should read warning erratic driver aboard. |

It's pointless |

Maybe you'd think twice about this question if you rear ended someone with a baby on board, whilst tailgating, and seriously injured or killed the said child?
Remember, children, especially babies are not as resilient as adults, their bodies have a tendancy to break easier! |

It was originally for the emergency crews that in case of an accident they are aware a baby is in the car. sort of like those signs they put on houses that animals are in the house for the fireman. of course in really bad emergencies its whoever and whatever you can save. |
