What have you learned, good or bad, from your parents about driving a car?

Apparently most young drivers pick up their parents' bad driving habits, especially if they teach them to drive.

Good: Drive at reasonable speed and not too close to the car in front.
Bad: Pretending to be Nigel Mansell and finding the 'racing line' on country roads. |

Good: Drive defensively and be cautions; keep in the right lane except to pass on the freeway unless there are more then 2 lanes, then use a middle lane (I bet some of those lane lane hogs got that bad habit from their parents).
Bad: Drive too slow on some roads and too fast on others; being too cautions; my dad seems to stop short when the traffic light turns yellow when any other driver would proceed through (I would); my dad doesn't use blinkers for lane changes on the freeway and I picked up on that habit, I generally don't signal lane changes unless there's other traffic around (and I don't think this is really a bad habit). My dad actually encourages speeding to keep up with traffic or go 60-70 mph in a 45 mph construction zone because that's what other traffic is going. This is probably not a bad habit because I believe it's safer to go with the flow, going the speed limit would get you run over. |

If your parents don't have crashes, try to observe how they scan for hazards, how they turn corners, how they keep a safe following distance, and how they avoid other not so safe drivers. |

Good: Driving manners and being nice to other road users.
Bad: Believing other road users are equally polite. Too cautious. |
