What if a car hits me when the pedestrian sign says "walk"?

I like to run around our town, and I make sure to use the pedestrian signal lights to cross streets to be safe. Well today when the light said "walk" I was beginning to run across on the crosswalk, and then i see a car come speeding up like it going to hit me, so I stop. But it stopped after it saw me stop in the middle of the crosswalk. Before that, there were several cars that did not even acknowledge that I could walk and kept on going. Don't pedestrians have the right of way? What if I were to get hit by a car one day, when the signal clearly said I was supposed to walk? Would it be my fault I guess for not looking carefully enough? Or the drivers for not obeying the traffic signal for pedestrians?

LOL....Oh....You are silly. In today's age of being sue happy, this is what would happen. If you have some one or something (camera) supporting your story, the case would be a slam dunk. If your word vs. theirs, you'd probably still win. Why? Because pedistrians ALWAYS have the right of way. It is the drivers responsibility to watch out for those little, fragile, bi peds out there and not splatter them all over the road. If you live and someone or something saw it, the driver will be your barefooted house maid for a long time.

You will get hurt badly 4,000 lbs in motion will destroy a human body you should follow your mother's advise and not the walk signals if you would like to reach old age. The pain is not worth the money no matter what!

take one lane at a time and make sure one lane stops before you contined into the path of another car
(its illegal for another car to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk
and I find this works sometimes help put up your hand a like a traffic offficer would

no it's the cars fault when i go for driving lessons It's my responsibility not to hit pedestrians even if there doing the wrong thing.

You are responsible for your own safety. If the lights say walk it's just a light not a definitive instruction.
if you were on a high bridge over a deep valley and some one had put up a signs saying jump off and win a million Â£ / $ would you jump?

if you work on the basis that all vehicle drivers, me included are stark raving lunatics that have just got out of the asylum and never had a driving lesson and have no idea what we / they are going to do next, then you will be much safer whilst out running. Why run in town? Do you not have an open green park near by? Much healthier away for traffic with all of the pollution the tin tops give off.
If you were to get hit on a crossing with a green light in your favour, and heaven forbid you ever do, then if it came to court it's your word against the loony as to what colour the light was when YOU launched yourself into the path of Plonkers car.
