Try to get into the practice of being aware of your surroundings and the vehicles around you. Check your mirrors regularly and when changing lanes check your mirrors, indicate and just before you are going to change take a quick look over your shoulder to check your blind spot and THEN move. |

check for as little time as possible that your blind spot is clear... not so long you might hit something in front of you, not so little that you miss a motorcycle... time is lessened if you adjust your mirror to only slightly overlap your rearview... you won't be able to see the flank of your car, but that's why you're doing the shoulder check to begin with. flaring your mirrors to the side will give you a pretty clear view of the entire lane with just your mirrors which are positioned to eliminate your blind spot and keep traffic ahead of you in your peripheral vision. |
