under 60 pounds or 4'11" needs at least a booster seat

I live in Canada.

For children between 20 - 40 pounds they have to be in a forward facing tether-anchored car seat. For children over 40 pounds, you have to stay in the booster seat until you are 8 years old, or you have to be 4 feet 10 inches tall and 80 pounds.

It's recommended because a child who is in an accident can damage their spinal cords if the seat belt is not in the correct place on their hips.

My kids complain sometimes, but it's only for a few years and it may be all there is to protect their bodies and spinal cords from injury - then it's definitely worth it.

In the state of California, it is 6 years old or 60 pounds, which ever comes first.

In California the law is 6 years old and 60 pounds. I am not sure if that is a federal regulation or just a state law. Some states may be diffrent. Check with your local law enforcment or state website.

It doesn't matter how old you are. You have to be at least 60 pounds and 4'11" in the state of FL

The laws vary from state to state however from a safety standpoint it depends on the height and weight of the child. For example, in my state they say 8 years/80 lbs. If you have a 6 year old though who is tall for his age, can bend his knees comfortably over the edge of the seat and the seatbelt hits in the right places then chances are that you wouldn't get a ticket. I would keep your child in a car seat/booster seat as long as possible assuming that the child fits in the seat and it ensures that the seatbelt fits the right way. There are 12 year olds out there that are small enough to need a booster seat but because they are 12, the parents don't make them. Contact your local police for the specifics in your area if you still have questions.

It depends on the state. Some are up to 60 pounds or six years of age. You should check with the highway patrol for your state's requirements.

Depends on the state, but about 40-50 pounds, about 4-5 years old.
