bright headlights & it's blinding you? I know they say to look away at the white line, but isn't that considered taking your eyes off the road?

Slow down and look at the far right shoulder of the road, instead of trying to see the road in front or beyond his headlights.
You can still steer by "reading" the shoulder and the other car should pass by you soon enough.
While it is common practice, "flashing" your brights at him is NOT a good idea either. Not only are YOU, also breaking the law, you are also creating the possibilty of blinding HIM as well. Then you'd have TWO glare blinded drivers, approaching each other at speed. Don't feel that you have to make it your job to tell him his brights are on. |

Yes---definately----never take your eyes off the road. i live in a rural area also. I find it better to look at my tree line or if not a tree line, the white line on my right. Slow down by about 20 miles an hour and hug your tree line or white line----let that A-hole pass by by. |

No it's not. Because you will not be focused on the headlights blinding you and you will be using your Peripheral vision. You should never focus on bright things anyway. |

Flash at them to let them know it's too bright. If it's so bad that it's actually dangerous, just slow down and move over to the right side of your lane. |

That must be like the lights that kids are putting in their cars now. It doesn't even have to be dark they hurt your eyes in the day light. Yes you are right . |

Sometimes in my area with nothing but non-lit country roads and maybe the light of the full moon, an oncoming driver will lower his highs out of courtesy and I'll do the same.
Sometimes they won't lower their's - neither will I. I'll slow up and look at the white shoulder line and keep my pherifial(sp) vision on oncoming traffic. |
