What is the best way to turn your car if u slide on ice?

I will try to be as specific as I can be. Technicaly this should be practices in a driving school during an Advnace Driving course.
Attempting this for the first time on the road may bring awful results. I speak here from a driving instructor perspective:

Whatever you do, do not slam the brakes like somebody else said - you might get away with this in a front wheel drive car if the speed is low, but in a rear wheel drive it will cause the rear wheels to catch traction and propell the rearend in the opposite direction very violently.

Scenario 1 - Rear wheel drive.
When your skids, the rear end will pitch either right or left
This might sound a bit scary, but do not let go the accelerator, instead step on it a little more so the wheels are spinning (if they catch traction, the rear end will spin the other direction like i mentioned above). While the rear wheels are spinning, countersteer in the direction of the rear end pitch. Dont be afraid to turn the wheel farther, front wheels have to face the direction of the slide as liner as possible. Now your car will be in what we call a powerslide/drift. DO not overaccelerate at this time or the rear end will keep going forward and you will turn completely around.

As you are going sideways you will have to execute a series of countersteering manuevers by quickly turning the wheel to nearly straight position than back to countersteer, but each time countersteer less and less and you have to do it very very quickly. Your car will begin to straighten out. Once you are nearly straight, start to let go of the accelerator and when you feel rear wheels start catching traction, return the wheel to the straight position. You are driving in the straight line again - all this sounds like a lot to do, but could be done in less than half a second if you practice it a little.

Scenario 2 - Front wheel drive
Should be easier for a novice to control this situation. Just like in previous case do not let go the accelerator and begin countersteering. Only when the car begins to straighten out you can let go the accelerator quicker - front wheel drive will pull the front end forward once the wheels catch traction. When you countersteering the front wheel drive, instead of coming back to the straight position while countersteering you can turn the wheel slightly the other way, but very very slightly. This will cause the front driving wheels to pull the front of the car a little quicker.

Your should steer in the direction your car is going. Never, step on the brake as this will cause your car to fishtail out of of control.

In the direction that you are sliding.

Friendly Stranger..
Always steer into the direction that your car is sliding. The reason for this is because if you are sliding, and you are moving in every direction you can, you cause more instability. So if you are sliding steer into that direction to gain stability. Once you gain stability tap the brake slowly to re-gain position.

IN the direction your Sliding put the car in neutral and let the wheels roll freely , Do not hit the brakes as it will cause you to loose more control even if it is your first reaction.

Steer into the skid and if you have ABS brakes bury the pedal into the firewall and hold it there. Otherwise, leave the brake pedal alone until you get straightened out. If you lock up the wheels with non ABS brakes you have no control.
