If drive-up ATMs have Braille dots all over them, why are there not also Braille dots on speed limit signs and interstate highway signs as well? How else will blind drivers know the speed limit, or where to make the next exit?

The stupidity of Braille on ATMs is highlioghted by the fact that in order to access your account you must touch the screen and tap in your pin number. The screen is flat and smooth, and a blind person would have no way of being able to tell where to tap in his PIN, let alone being able to see the screen to follow the directions. How the hell is this supposed to work?

It's the same logic that OSHA uses when they mandate audible back up signals on construction equipment and then follow this rule up with a mandate that the workers wear ear plugs or head sets.
Go figure.
(At least with the Braile, the vision impaired passenger in the rear seat might find it pretty handy) |

The manufacturers of the ATM use the same control panel on a drive-up machine as the panel on an ATM placed inside of a building. To manufacture a separate system and panel would require them to make different training manuals, parts catalogs, inventory of parts. Manufacturers try to make things less expensive, not more expensive.

The blind person would be the passenger, and they could walk up to the ATM, or as someone else said, be sitting in the rear, behind the driver. Give me a break. Where's the logic in your question, would be MY question. |
